Former President Barack Obama is set to campaign in Atlanta on Wednesday for U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff and Democratic gubernatorial nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms, joining their push to turn out voters six days before the November 3 election.
The “United for Georgia” rally comes two days before early voting closes in the state. Other Democratic candidates are also scheduled to attend the event, which runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern time, according to organizers.
Ossoff is seeking another Senate term against Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Collins. Bottoms faces Republican Rick Jackson in the race to succeed Gov. Brian Kemp, who cannot seek a third consecutive term.
Obama’s visit adds to a round of appearances by national political figures as both parties seek to get supporters to the polls. President Donald Trump campaigned with Collins and Jackson in Dalton earlier this month. Last week, he also campaigned for Democratic Michigan Senate nominee Dr. Abdul El-Sayed in Detroit and Ohio candidates.
Health care, household costs and education are expected to feature at the Democratic rally. Bottoms plans to discuss proposals to expand Medicaid and increase investment in education, according to local reporting on the event.
Georgia has already recorded strong early turnout. More than one million people had voted in person by noon on October 20, about 12 percent more than at the same point in the 2022 midterms, according to the secretary of state’s office. That figure does not represent the current total.
Advance in-person voting ends Friday, October 30. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.
